Foil Blocked
Foil Blocked printing, is a great way to create a high-end look without the high-end price. The foil is applied using a heated metal die etched with the image or lettering you require and is then, expertly applied to create the desired finish. The substrate is then wrapped around the custom box, folder or binder and the finish will have a subtle depth to the impression. We hold an extensive range of standard foil colours in stock or we can order in non-standard colours to suit your requirements. Most materials are suitable for foil blocking but our blocking expert has over 40 years experience so we can advise on how best to achieve the result you’re looking for.
Debossing
Debossing is a technique that adds texture and dimension to a variety of different products. The process creates an indented image into the surface of the substrate so your logo and lettering can be depicted for greater impact.
The process is similar to foil blocking and involves the use of a metal die, normally made from magnesium and to your specific requirements. After mounting the die to a plate within the blocking press the substrate is placed in a lay and pressure is then applied to create your design or logo.
This can be done with or without foil, if it is without foil it is referred to as blind debossing if we use foil you need the combination of heat and pressure to achieve the effect.
Embossing
Embossing creates a raised three-dimensional design and works best with a thinner substrate, so lends itself more to folders, invitations, and business cards. The process requires two metal dies that fit into one another. The substrate, usually paper or card, is placed between the two dies and then heat and pressure are applied to push the raised die into the recessed die. The image area can be pre-printed or used with metallic foiling for a more dynamic result.
The above processes are all available in-house here at BLL, so keeping costs and waiting time down and all overseen by our blocking specialist who has worked with us for over 40 years, so you know you are in safe hands.
